Fitness Friday...It's OK!

This week I have been feeling....worn as if life has caught up with me and I can't get out of my own way!  I've been beating myself up over not feeling super motivated and falling into the ever-dangerous comparison trap....like she has 9 kids, works 2 jobs, and still runs 50 miles a week so what is my deal kind of trap!  Not OK!  I've been keeping up with my Summer Shred '13 workouts but my running has been less than stellar to say the least!  This morning I finally said to myself.....
IT'S OK.....
  • to wake up in the morning and NOT want to run
  • to rewash the same load of laundry 3 times because you keep forgetting about it (right?)
  • to get an AMAZING opportunity through Fitfluential to work with the Under Armour What's Beautiful competition and then totally bomb the first week!
  • to miss runs because you can't manage to stay awake more than 5 minutes (for a few days at least)
  • to give yourself grace for a time...not too long though...to let your mind catch up with the new plan!
  • to be less than perfect (that's hard to say)
  • to get to the end of your day and accept that tomorrow will be better.
Not every week is going to be one for the record books.  Life isn't always laid out in nice neat rows for us...it is what we do with that messiness that shows who we really are.  This week was not great...it's been coming so I should have recognized it when it showed up at my doorstep but this time I'm saying "It's OK".  Tomorrow is a new day!  Just as long as I don't do this...

How do you face a hard week?  What do you do when your mind is fighting back?

  2. Love this- you're so right. That comparison trap is dangerous. And I've definitely been there with the laundry!! Rest up this weekend, that motivation will be back!

  3. I try to stay out of the comparison trap but it happens every once in a while. When I had little ones, I considered keeping them alive an accomplishment;) If I did that then I was good:) So you are doing above and beyond! I have done the laundry thing before. Hate it when that happens!

  4. Yes, I tend to do the comparison thing a lot! If so and so can do it then I should be able to! Keep your head up you're doing awesome!

  5. I laughed harder than I probably should have at the comic on this post. People in the office now think I'm crazy. Thanks for the reminder - it's how we react to circumstance that defines us.

  7. Ugh I feel like this all.the.time. I beat myself up all the time when I succumb to sweets or snooze through a run. I need to remember that "This too shall pass". Thanks for making me realize I'm not the only one :)

  8. The comparison trap was the hardest part for me when I started blogging (and reading other blogs). Some days I have to quit reading blogs because they are just making me feel like a huge loser (not intentionally, but still). Most days there are so many posts that totally motivate me and inspire me - like your's today!! It is always nice to know that others have the same struggles as I do.
    Thanks for sharing your feelings!!

  9. I remind myself that there are only 24 hours in a day and that some things on my to-do list just have to wait!
Remember that the 9-kid 2-job 50-miler person is missing out on some of the things that you choose to do during your 24 hours. They're probably dying for some extra sleep!

  10. Oh boy, your last bullet (to get to the end of your day and accept that tomorrow will be better) kept me going today. Today was NOT a good day. I was lucky and grateful to be able to work from home, so at least I could hide my bad day from my coworkers/boss.

My one good thing? My run. Of course!!! But still looking ahead and glad to see this week in my rear view....

  11. I have so been there Nancy! I wish I had great words of wisdom but for me it seems to just take a little bit of time. Than, I realize it really is ok :)

Hang in there and in the mean time try not to be so hard on yourself.

  12. You are really hard on yourself! I have given up a lot of being hard on myself. If I feel too tired to get up, I don't. If I don't get in a workout, there's always tomorrow. I have really calmed down after 3 kids :)

  15. Oh my gosh; I am having that week this week! I went out for dinner and overate, the next day I didn't work out AND I overate, the next day I was so unmotivated that I scrubbed the kitchen floor instead of running...and now it's today and I have only run once this week. Ug.
