Words for Wednesday

I think the Little Engine that Could was quite the progressive thinker...I mean we all need a little "I think I can" in our life. Thank you all so much for the encouragement you gave from my last post! It really means so much!!! I know that Runner's World did an article last month on running mantras and many people have posted about it. I have always said, after my warm-up, "Time to go to work" and sometimes I turn to "You've got this!" but I'm looking to see if I can upgrade my mantra to really kick me into gear so.........

What do you say to yourself to kick into gear....to get you through a rough patch??

  1. The Little Engine That Could was brilliant...

I think mine would be...Do you want ice cream later, because you can't have it if you don't do this.

I will do just about anything for ice cream. I know that's not as serious as most peoples mantras, but I run so I can eat what I want. : )

  2. My Mom always said, "This too shall pass" and my favorite is "That which does not kill us will only make us stronger". But I don't know if those are great running mantras....I'm going to keep an eye on this and see if I can find a new one.

  3. I think I need a new mantra too. Running indoors on the treadmill all winter I've gotten used to the clock or the milage countdown to keep me motivated. One thing I always tell myself is "You've got more...keep moving. You've got this. You're killin this." haha.

  5. I use different mantras depending on the situation - of late I've been trying to push myself out of my comfort zone when it comes to pace so my mantra's been "Run Strong, No Fear" - got me through my tempo run yesterday!

  6. well these are both running related - but i like these:
"someone is training when you are not, when you race her, she will win"
    and
“Every morning in Africa, a Gazelle wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning a Lion wakes up. It knows it must outrun the slowest Gazelle or it will starve to death. It doesn't matter whether you are a Lion or a Gazelle... when the sun comes up, you'd better be running.”

    good luck with your no-sugar-lent!

  8. It changes based on the moment.

"You've got this" kept running through my mind at the last race.

"No excuses" is what I tell myself in the midst of a tough workout.

"Just keep swimming" pops into my head a lot too ;)
