How Do You Fill Your Cup?

I am not sure how this post will come out but bear with me while I attempt to explain what I have been feeling lately. I feel like I have written this a million times before so if you are thinking to yourself...."what else is new?" I apologize!

Throughout my life, God has given me slight nudges toward what He wants me to do. Often times I ignore these nudges or say, "Yeah I'll get to that" until He just slams me over the head with it! Lately, the past few months, He has been nudging me about taking time for me. Taking the time to be still and allow Him to fill my cup. It seems like every where I turn there are messages of needing to get my cup filled before I can try to fill other's cups. The challenge comes with how....I'm a full-time working mom, wife, sister, daughter, friend, and runner and I suppose I forget to pencil myself into all of that.

As the school year wraps up I always find my time even more sliced and diced with all the last minute things to do. This morning as I drove white knuckled to work, of course running late, I thought to myself, "I can't do this anymore." I was beating myself up for being too "lazy" to get up and run this morning and trying to calculate when I could fit in a triple session to make up for the miles I had missed. I want to make the change with this before God needs to hit me over the head!

This summer, really next week, I want to spend making my decisions reflect the desires of my heart....being a loving wife, soaking in time with my daughter while I have it, running because I love to not because I have to, and just delighting in the many blessings I have been given....taking the time to get my cup filled every day!

So I ask you.....How do you fill YOUR cup?

  1. Great post Nancy. I hope you get it all figured out for the perfect mix just for you. It's an ongoing challenge for most of us.

  2. This is a really good post! I think the importance is finding the right balance. When I have the right balance going, I am getting enough sleep and getting my training in and feel good, and I am also keeping Josh and the kids and my faith a priority. Life is good when everything feels balanced... the trick is that "life" is always shaking things up. For me, the best way to keep things balanced is to say "no" to as much of the little things as possible... the things that are less important and take time away from the things that are most important to me (God, Josh, kids, running). As moms we usually "take" away from ourselves first, which isn't good for any of us. Good luck and I hope you find the right balance for you.

  3. I think you are like most of us and can be too hard on yourself. You do what you can and don't stress those missed runs. I think you are on the right track and He will help you out, just gotta ask and give yourself the room to recieve. :)

  4. Isn't funny how we sometimes hear the 'murmurs' but ignore them until we're slammed over the head? That perfect balance between doing for others and fulfilling ourselves is an elusive one. I'm trying hard to savor all that is special about summer and family while allowing myself some time as well...even if it comes at 4am.
All the best finding the right combination for your cup!

  6. I like the shape of your cup!
I need a 2x4 over the head too often on this .. Usually I drop the ball on something- it's just not possible to fit it all in. I listened to a podcast on time management recently and it made me realize that there is always enough time in the day to get what matters done, if I am in line with God's priorities. But that means I have to be inline with them...not always easy.
Today I took a rest day- not sure I can handle 2 days in row though!!

  7. Oh, I so needed to read this post. As Small Town Runner said, I also need a 2x4 over the head! I am so incredibly blessed and I just need to slow down and recognize the many way God is working in my life.

(Thanks for the comment on my blog - I'm also using your quote from Hebrews on my blog - simply perfect!)
