Three Things Thursday

It certainly has been a while since I have put on my random hat on a Thursday and brought to you three randoms but here you go!!

1.  I'm sorry...WHAT?...I'm leading with this one since it is the most on my mind.  I am going to attempt to not sound like I'm whining but it is weighing heavy on my heart.  During my doctor's appointment this week (mind you I have seen my doctor only 1 time in 9 months...like I'm pretty sure he could never pick me out of a line up) I asked the nurse practitioner about writing me a letter to say I can't go back to work for a certain period of time due to my c-section (We are allowed 12 weeks as teachers but they are 12 UNPAID weeks.  The letter would allow me to get paid and thus be able to take the time).  Her response was 6 weeks....6 weeks...1 1/2 months and then I hand over my daughter to someone else for 6 hours a day and I go back to teaching.  To say the thought of this is devastating to me would be a HUGE understatement.  I am so thankful for my job and being able to help provide for my family but this news just hit me so hard....that and the lack of compassion from the nurse.  She kept saying, "But you get 12 weeks right?"  She stopped saying this after I said to her, "Yes but you give me your paycheck for 6 weeks and let me know how easy it is to pay your bills".  I still don't know what to do about this but like I said it is weighing on my heart and thought I would share.

2.  Family 5k...This week hubs started talking about setting another goal for himself and getting back to doing more cardio....and then it happened...he suggested we run a 5k together!  It was during dinner so I tried to keep my happy dancing (like picture Gangnam style) tucked deep inside but I was psyched!!!  I'm sure I had some smart comment like, "Oh sure now you want to run with me...now that you'll probably beat me!" but really I couldn't be more excited!!

3.  Throwing in the towel...Yesterday as I was driving Em to swimming (she has by the way turned into a fish...watch out Michael Phelps someone is gunning for your record!), I had a thought pass through my head.  What if I just threw in the towel and just ate whatever I wanted....if I craved it I would eat it and not care about how healthy it was.  Then I remembered how awful I feel when I do just that.  Pregnancy brings cravings but along with that are the ramifications for giving into those cravings...like swollen feet and hands (so sexy I promise) or heartburn that feels like you may be able to take a side job as a fire breathing dragon!  Yeah needless to say it was a fleeting thought and I won't be spending the last 1 1/2 weeks gorging on all my cravings!!

Have something random running through your life right now or something exciting coming?
  Share away!!!

  2. Is all of the U.S like that in they only give you 6 weeks paid maternity leave? That is such a crying shame! How long do they allow losers to stay on welfare and they only give a new mom 6 weeks to recover and bond with her baby. :o( I feel badly for you in that situation but I guess as a mom you also have to do what you have to do to keep your family financially secure. ........ My sister ate whatever she wanted when she was pregnant with both of my nephews. She was MASSIVE. Good call on the healthy food! LOL

  3. I hate that the U.S. is STILL so backwards when it comes to maternity leave! It is insane!!! Good luck to you getting what you need--keep pushing.

Enjoy the family 5k--love running with my kids!

  6. I will be praying that #1 works out how you had hoped. So sad that people can be so heartless. Seems that she doesn't have kids. Yay for running a 5k together. That will be fun!

  8. In my job, we offer short and long-term disability and ask the employee to bring the form to the hospital and ask the doctor there to fill out the form, depending on how giving birth went. Regular birth is 8 weeks and c-section is usually 12 weeks. I would suggest you try that too. I'm pretty sure you can get your 12 weeks. I'll keep my fingers cross.
I think going back to work after 12 weeks is still tough, I wish the government would help workers more out here. I'm spoiled from Germany.

  9. I'm sorry that you're heart is heavy about your maternity leave. I know it's hard. I had enough days saved up to take 8 weeks with my first, but I missed the beginning of school. It was so hard coming in late that with my second, I took only 5 weeks. That was hard too, but in a different way. I'll be thinking of you!

  10. 6 weeks sucks. I have 4 kiddos. And have progressively shortened my maternity leave with each one. Not by choice. The way I came to terms with it the last time when I did the short 6 weeks is I asked myself at that time whether in a week or in 2 weeks whether I would feel any more ready or less sad to go back to work. The answer was simply no. Whether it was 6 weeks or 10 weeks I would much rather stay home with my baby. For me I ended up figuring out that rather than spend the next week or two dreading going back to work what worked best for me was to jump on that horse and get it over with. I'm sorry though. Because it really does plain suck.

  11. I hope you are able to work it out where you can take the 12 weeks off to be with your new little one.
