Today's randomness is brought to you by toddlers, challenges, and injuries!! Enjoy!
1. Toddler Tantrums....Surely I can't be alone in this battle but why is it that my soon to be 4 year-old can leave me feeling like the worst mom in the world? Em is such a sweetheart but with the excitement of Christmas and her upcoming birthday she has become a loose cannon! Each day is a battle....what to wear, eat, do, say, you name it! One moment she will be sweet as pie and the next she is spitting wooden nickels! Any tried and true suggestions for those of you either in the trenches with a toddler or on the other side...you know beside a bottle of wine!?
2. Chilly Challenge 2013...Amy at Running Escapades and Janine at The Purple Giraffe have teamed up for an awesome January challenge to start the year off right! It's simple...pick a team (I'm on Team Escapades which is the #1 team!!!), get moving either running, walking, or the elliptical, and log your miles on the Chilly Challenge spreadsheet. Easy peasy! Not only are you starting 2013 off strong but there of course is some great swag to win!! Head on over and join the best team...I mean whichever team you want!!
3. Bum Back...After 2 c-sections and an additional abdominal surgery, my core is pretty weak. My biggest fear is that I would hurt my lower back again like I did after having Em. Here is where I am turning to all of you! Any suggestions on lower back/core exercises that I should do to ward off lower back injury?
Fancy Nancy, you are the best! Team Escapades is the #1 team ;) (sorry Janine, hehe)
ReplyDeleteMy PT told me recently that plank intervals are better than holding planks, and less likely to cause back pains.
I feel your pain on the Toddler Tantrums! One day we will look back when our kids are teenagers and wish we had toddler tantrums to worry about. :)
ReplyDeletePlanks are my core savior!
Try checking out the Mayo Clinic website for the lower back exercises.
ReplyDeletePlanks are great, but holding them for a while can bother the lower back, especially after having a baby and the abs are weaker. Try alternating between regular plank and side planks so you don't hold the plank too long until your muscles are stronger. I also like the 100's in pilates for working the abs isometrically. When I did pilates my abs were the strongest they have ever been:)
ReplyDeleteI wish a had a greawt toddler trick, but man my daughter gets the best of me at least once a week and she is almost 5.
ReplyDeleteLower back.. planks and lay on your tummy and do several sets of lifting your legs and arms up and holding them like you are superwoman.
I have no advice - just want to say that I think you might try googling post pregnancy workouts to see if you can find something suitable.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with Em. It's a tough age... pushing boundaries and wanting to make her own decisions.
I don't miss the 4 year old tantrums, but now I have 15 year old tantrums which aren't much better. Anyhoo....as for the back, try planks and supermans.
ReplyDeleteAgree with Christy, different plank variations. They not only strengthen your core, but your lower back as well. double whammy :)
ReplyDeleteAhh tantrums. I know of those all too well :(
ReplyDelete1. Tantrums - I've got 'em x 2!
ReplyDelete2. Chilly Challenge - Team Escapades for the win! I'm with you! ;)
3. Plank variations, cat/cow, bridge. Check out my blog for some tips! Good luck!
I swear all 4 yr olds are have a manual for how to effectively push mommy's buttons! It does get better...I promise!
ReplyDeletePlank intervals, bridges, the hundreds (pilates) - actually any chance you can hit a pilates class? Pilates did wonders for my core post baby.
Sending you luck and healthy vibes for all three.....
ReplyDeleteNick is starting to really test my patience! He'll be 4 in Feb. Hang in there. I have felt like the worst mom in the world - both to him and Kara who tests me daily!
ReplyDeleteMy BF has back probs from his weak core and when he does Pilates regularly, he has no back probs.
