How do you keep from looking back?

Monday Motivation
Yesterday I shaved 12 minutes off my time from last year's Newport 10 Miler...12 minutes and if it wasn't for a HORRID side stitch from mile 8.5 to the finish it would have been even more (more to come this week!)! One thing that I continued to say to myself in the latter miles was, "This is not last year!" Last year I had an awesome first 6 miles and then the wheels fell off...hard. I am a stronger runner than I was last year and I proved that to myself yesterday! In order to make progress forward we can't look back...we aren't going back...we are moving on up! Focus forward!!

Congratulations! I usually try to pick myself up, dust myself off and move forward with a lesson from the past. Leave it in the past but learn from it :)

12 minutes???? Way to go mama!
ReplyDeleteWay to go Nancy! I use positive self talk and mantras to get me through tough races. I remind myself that this is what I have been training for and I was made for this, that sort of thing, works for me :)
ReplyDelete12 minutes, holy crap that's insane!!! congrats! I think it's ok to remember the past as long as it's a guide for the future
ReplyDeleteYou rocked it! So good to see you ;)
ReplyDeleteWOAH! That is HUGE, Nancy! Congratulations!!
ReplyDeleteIt's hard but I just keep looking forward. If I'm too busy planning for the future there is little time to dwell in the past.

ReplyDeleteAwesome P.R! It can be hard not to compare one race to the next! I struggle with this especially when I am having a tough race. The mental part of racing is definitely the toughest. Congratulations on a strong run! You earned it!!!
ReplyDeleteWahoo! This is amazing! Such a big amount of time to take off!! Congrats. Hope you're soaking up the glow. I just take the lessons to be learned and move on. Always something to gain from bad races...things that make us stronger for the next ones. Just like life.
ReplyDeleteAwesome job yesterday and so nice to finally meet! Can't wait for ZOOMA :)
