I'm not sure how you are but I pretty much need to get hit over the head with a hammer to wake up and listen to my body, especially when it comes to doing less! If it's asking to be pushed harder and do more, I have no problem obliging, but rest....not so much. We all need rest but even more so when our body is sending out that request! What results when we fail to listen......

Yeah not good things! So while I feel badly for going to bed early and missing out on extra workouts and fulfilling my social media appointments, I know in the long run my body will thank me and not make me pay with one of the above! Let's hope it decides to thank me this Sunday as I toe the line here....Do you listen to your body or do you need to be hit over the head like me?
I try to listen to my body. But I lot of times I dont hear what its trying to tell me and I end up paying for it.

ReplyDeletefunny this was your post today- i think i have been fighting listening to my body. i know i am pushing myself to do more than i have ever done running and i am trying to do what is right. i think i will take an ice bath today to see if it helps my tired,aching muscles. i do really worry about injury and over use but i continue to do my “schedule” for fear of failing. not really smart.

I'm struggling with learning how to sit still, I have major anxiety when I'm at home alone doing nothing... I say listen to your body but I have to learn how!
ReplyDeleteYou are spot on with this. And I am the same way--it's a struggle to get myself to slow down in all aspects of life. But we DO have to listen and do what our bodies tell us!

Good luck Sunday!! I stink at down time, and since I have been out of work, I feel like I have wayyy too much downtime and am becoming sluggish!! I am trying hard this week to get out of it, but I got sick and now I am back on the couch doing nothing!!

I can't say I'm perfect about listening to my body all the time, but I try not to let it get too insistent before I pay attention. Currently "listening" while nursing a late-winter cold....lots of fluid, rest, vitamins, etc.

Yup I usually need some sort of a wake up call, I like to push and push until ..WHAM, I do crappy in a race or get an injury. Luckily I have only had minor injuries so far~ I am learning to be better about it though.

ReplyDeleteI don't do a very good job listening, because I want to believe all will be fine. I'm running a half on Sunday too and hopefully my body will forgive me. It could be that I'm going to get hit over head...

ReplyDeleteRunning and "racing" during my pregnancy was the best thing I did for myself, it taught me that I needed to listen to my body since I was responsible for someone else and more important then that workout or extra commitment.
