Early Bird or Night Owl....

....what kind of exerciser are you?
Today is Day 2 of the Fitness Cheerleader's Challenge for August and today's question is simple,
Do you workout in the morning or at night?  Why?
While I've always gotten up and did my long runs early Saturday morning, I didn't become a hardcore morning exerciser until I had Emma!  Now I feel out of sorts if I start my day differently!  During the school year I am up with the birds....or often times even before them.  I head to the gym and get my workout in.  I find that if I get it in before work, then there are less things that can get in the way!  I do incorporate cardio for double sessions at night and honestly find it very entertaining.  I've said it before...it is like watching an episode from Jersey Shore playing out right before my eyes!!
My Saturday runs are before the house wakes up!  This works for me because not only do I get it done early so I can enjoy my day with my family, but to be perfectly honest as soon as I hear the little princess talking upstairs the Mommy guilt kicks in!  I begin to think about how I've been at work all week and how it would be nice to snuggle and watch Disney with her....but I know that if I skip my run then a grouchy mom I'll be!  Plus I always have Sunday!

What about you?  Early bird or Night Owl?

  1. Definitely prefer early bird, but we'll see how that goes when my schedule gets way earlier in SEptember. I like having it done! "Before my brain figures out what I'm doing" lol

  2. I am an early bird, although with a 5 month old who has decided she likes to get up earlier and earlier each day it has been harder to get out and about earlier! At least during my long runs on Sat morning I know she is napping the majority of the time.

  3. Trying to transition to a full-blown early bird - getting there!!

  4. I'm with you, up before the reat of the world many days (my alarm goes off at 4 or 4:30 often). Since I became a mom I have found it so much more important to get this early morning workout in to leave me with more family time later in the day.

  5. I love being up before the rest of the world and my day usually starts around 5-6am.

  6. I'm participating in the August Challenge too! I really want to start becoming more of a morning runner, especially now that I am a mom. I am definitely a work in progress though!

  7. I can't get up early during the week b/c Colin leaves for work at 5:30am and although I've tried waking up prior to that to workout he's a light sleeper and I wake him up. So I exercise during Logan's naps and when Colin gets home. However, on weekends I run in the early morning and prefer it :)

  8. I am definitely an early bird! I prefer to beat the heat and get it done when I can. During the week I don't have a choice because I work full time. The evening workouts can be tough especially after a long day at work but I have to get it done!

  9. I am early, always! It just fits my life and my body's internal clock. I do throw in two-a-days here and there (especially w/ triathlon) so night training isn't out of the picture, but I try to get my bigger workouts in the a.m. I hate being up late!

  10. I love running in the evening! After the kids are asleep and the sun just starts going down. I'm not much of a morning person!

  11. Runch for me - all you morning workout warriors need to come to my house and haul my butt outta bed. I have tried and tried and tried...

  12. Morning workouts for me. Not too early though. I would love to be one of those people that gets up at the crack of dawn for their workouts, but just the thought of it makes me nauseous:) So funny about the gym in the evening. The people are so different in the morning vs. the evening.

  13. Totally morning for me, though I can get my yoga on in the afternoon or evening. If I don't run early, it just doesn't get done.

  14. Morning! Especially since I became a mother. It is just so nice to have it done and be able to get to the rest of my day.

  15. Definitely mornings for me! The only thing I try to squeeze in in the evenings is a pilates or yoga class, but as far as the running goes, it has to be early or it won't happen!

  16. I love working out around 7am if possible, but I have to be work by then, so I usually get stuck doing it in the afternoon, which I hate. It is SO HARD to motivate that late in the day!

  17. I like working out late morning. I feel so sluggish first thing in the morning and if I put it off until evening I'll never get it done. I was completely opposite when I worked 8-5 and we still lived in Auburn. I went straight from work to the gym and stayed there for at least an hour and often 2 hours with 1-2 of my girl friends. The three of us really helped motivate each other and we kept each other accountable in our workouts.

  21. I would like to say that I am responsible and I get up super early to get my run in...but I am not. If I am off, I usually go around 9 or 10. If I am working, I go after work. It does make it harder to get out the door, but I can't get up earlier. Okay, I don't want to!

  22. I'm an early bird and do my long runs Saturday at 7am. However on weekdays I can't get out the door, I enjoy a slow start and prefer to work out at night.

  23. I love working out in the morning. It's totally me-time and I feel like it sets me up for a great day. Why ruin a healthy morning with an unhealthy day, right? And I'm right with you on the Saturday morning runs.
