Fitness Friday...The Long Road Back

So the long road back to 13.1 began this week and wow is it humbling!!  I have my eyes on a half in March and this week made me question if I'll ever get it back let alone run double that distance!!!  Yes my friends....I'm doubting....I'm frustrated...I'm discouraged.  There is nothing like running to both lift your spirits higher than you thought and take them lower than you thought...sometimes all in the same run!  I know I will one day get it back just like I did the last time....but for today I'm putting my pouty pants on!
Here are some thoughts on my road back thus far...no I won't make them all whiny!
  • Running with a double jogger is no joke...those kids are heavy!!  Then again I have forgotten to fill the tires all the way so that could help me out a bit!!
  • My neighborhood must think I'm nuts!  I have been listening to the Another Mother Runner podcasts and my goodness they crack me up!!!  It feels like I'm just talking to my BRF and they are hilarious!!
  • My whole body hurts....even my hair!  I have been running for weeks now but for some reason this week my body is fighting back.  I look like an old lady getting off the couch and going!
  • Momma needs some shoes!  I think with the pounding in my shoes with the extra weight of the pregnancy, my shoes are left needing some help!
  • I will get there...and it will be great!  I know I will get there and I will look back on this time and laugh...yeah I probably won't laugh...I will remember the climb!
  • At the end of the day I am thankful...thankful to be in a place where I can challenge my body...to push it to new levels...to mold it...to strengthen it...and then come home and hug my family!

  2. You can do it! You'll find a new normal and you'll modify to adapt to kids' needs but you'll make your way through this and come out stronger on the other end. Believe it! Hang in there girl. BOB was my BFF for years!

  4. You're right. It will get easier! Plus, you'll have strong arms from pushing the double jogger!

  5. Wow, once you train with a double stroller, you will be so fast without it! Take it slow and easy for now. March is a long way away :)

  6. I hear you! Coming back to running after pregnancy is hard but you can definitely do it. It may take a little while to settle into a new normal but you will get there and be great. Honestly, whenever I see someone pushing a stroller, let alone a double stroller, while running, I can't help but think that they are STRONG.

  7. Double joggers are indeed beasts! But I think it will make you that much stronger--think how running a race w/o it will feel! You can do this. Another month or so will make so much difference in where your fitness level is.

  9. Think about how buff your arms and abs are gonna be from the stroller pushing! I know you can do this and I understand the frustrated feeling. Keep at it - you'll definitely get there.

  10. Take it slow and cut yourself some slack whenever you need it! I ran a half when my second son was 5 months old and it was the best thing I could have done. Having a goal like that made getting back to running much better for me!

Treat yourself to some nice new kicks -- you deserve them.

    You can do this!

  11. I always have those feeling after coming back from a break. Heck, I have those feeling while running in Colorado because of the hills and altitude. But you know what, our bodies are amazing and DO adapt. Make sure you plan in plenty of recovery (including step-back weeks) and be consistent - you'll get there!! :)

  12. After a month or so of hitting it hard to get back into it, it's only natural that you're feeling tired and hurting. Hopefully there is a cutback week coming in your plan sometime soon, but you've got this!! We all have those weeks. :)

  13. I think because you have done this before you know you can do it again AND you know to be patient with yourself and take the time it needs and put in the work it needs too. You are doing just great! Way to go, Mama!

  14. You are doing an awesome job Nancy! I always am inspired by moms who push the stroller while running. I don't know how you do it:) Super hard!

  15. Oh man. It's the worst getting back at it again. But, you know as well as the rest of us (as I read in the other comments) that you will be back at it just as hard as before. And yeah, jogging strollers (especially doubles) are way to heavy, they need to invent one that pulls you along ;) That would be way easier.

  16. You are amazing! Just think how fast you'll fly when you're not pushing the jogger. It's excellent endurance training for sure!!!

  17. I have heard the jogging stroller is hard, but think of how much stronger you'll feel during races when you don't have to push that around!

  21. Setting right goals is one of the most important things. To achieve your goals you must be not only well trained, but also well educated. I found a good source of education in fitness and sports - militarygradenutritionals.com/blog. There I've learned a lot of things about trainings, nutrition and workouts. Never before I've been having as much motivation and energy!
