Many times I get in my own way....I don't sign up for races or don't go to a new class because I get in my own way....rather fear gets in my way. Generally it isn't the fear of something bad happening, but rather the fear of failing. However at the end of the day...isn't it more important that you tried than whether or not you failed? Isn't the message I want to send to my daughter one of
you can do anything you put your mind to rather than one of
be careful because you might fail? I'm beginning to look to the future after the baby is here and I am swirling around in my head some goals...goals that I may fail at but I am still reaching for them because it is in the reach that we really grow!!
What would you do? What would you reach for?
I was so inspired this morning by Dimity's story of Cynthia a runner at the Annapolis Zooma Half this weekend. Cynthia had learned her thyroid cancer had returned after a 9 year remission. She was running that half to show her body who was really in control. Check out the story on
Another Mother Runner. I am encouraged and moved by Cynthia's strength....she is determined not to fail!
what an amazing story.... I am in the middle of a injury rt now and was very bummed to stop running! You can achieve anything you put your mind to...even through sickness or injury.

ahhh! i can relate so much! at the end of the day when i really sit down to think about it lately...i have realized that I have been MY own worst enemy a lot this year. just a week or 2 ago i decided i needed to stop being afraid and go after my goals. stop holding myself back. thanks for this!
ReplyDeleteYou have so many amazing things going on!! I love the house!! You are going to do great things!!!
DeleteNancy I can so relate to this - not letting fear hold me back is something I'm working on for sure!
ReplyDeleteThat is a great story--we all need to learn from her. I find myself in a similar, fear holding me back position right now. I haven't been tested for real in a race yet this year and I have no idea what I can do. I'm starting to realize I am letting fear get in my way. Need to change that!
ReplyDeletethat story is inspiring, i think i would do a tri knowing I could finish! i am certain i probably can but i have doubts!
ReplyDeleteSo, so true... we really need to get past our fears (after all, no one else cares how we do!) Thanks for sharing the link... great story.
ReplyDeleteI realized during a race this weekend just how much we can hold ourselves back with fear and self defeating thoughts. Love the story :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great story!! So inspiring! If I couldn't fail: I would quit my office job today and start my own running coaching business.
ReplyDeleteGreat story! I think we would attempt so many more great things if we knew we wouldn't fail. Even if we do fail, it's usually worth a try.
