If I could just chop off my leg...

...and replace it with a new one I would be golden!!!

That was the thought running through my head yesterday during my run!  I have a funky thing going on from about right above my bum in the back and tightens up my hip and down to my knee.  Yesterday, during an easy 3 miler, it was actually preventing me from having a full stride!  This is no new problem for me...I had a massage on the docket...oh...well...a year ago...and then I found out I was pregnant!  Ooops!  Massage forgotten but apparently not my "injury".  No I'm refusing to call it an injury...it's purely a hiccup...if I ignore it then it'll go away right?
Webmd was a ton of help...based on my symptoms it could be anything from a muscle strain to kidney failure (yeah not so much!)  I'm trying not to be...
but my heart is telling me to run...run...run!  I was just starting to feel like I was getting back to it!  I rocked my 10 miler on Saturday (probably the cause of the pain) and I was feeling confident that the 1/2 marathon in March was mine!  I'm not counting myself out....I am going to schedule that massage and foam roll until we are friends again!  Tonight I will go easy on myself and not push it too hard!

  1. Be careful! You don't want a full-fledged injury. Better to be Miss Cautious sometimes!

  2. Definitely kidney failure. ;0) Oh, the internets.

I'm with Miss Zippy - be careful. A massage and foam roller are good first steps. But don't discount that your body has been through a lot of changes and stress this past year. Be sweet to it!

  3. is it your left leg? If so I saw we high jack someone and you take their left leg and I'll take their right and then everything will be good!

Understand about not running making you grumpy, if pain doesn't subside, hopefully there is some other activity to get your endorphins going

  4. Sorry your right leg is bugging you. My right hip has been since last... May maybe. Your cartoons and pictures made me laugh because they are so true and of course hit home.

Hope your leg gets better soon. My doesn't seem to want to get better but it doesn't get worse really either so I am living with it because I am little miss stubborn.

  5. Take it slow...better to slow down and take care of it than have it flare up into something bigger. Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

  8. You might want to see a chiropractor who does ART (Active release therapy). I had similar issues and it really helped. If you catch it early, you might be back to normal after a couple of visits. Please don't wait too long.

  11. Thought I would add my 2 cents : - ) Rest, yoga, and stretch! I started running quickly after having Lindsay and now I'm injured. It is my SI joint - look that up and see if it could be ailing you, my chiro friend said it shifts during pregnancy, very hard to diagnose, and similar pain to what you are feeling and the location... hope it's not that but maybe. You are doing alot of hard core stuff and our bodies just went through 9 months of pregnancy... needs to recover a bit!
