1. Holy Moly!...Today I am the Mother for "Follow this Mother" on another mother runner blog!!!! When Sarah first contacted me I thought I was being punked....I seriously love these ladies! Now that I've emailed and talked to Sarah I have realized that she is just like everyone else...even more so now that we are BFFs!! Lol! I crack myself up! Seriously though, I can't believe I was chosen and I am just over the moon excited! Head on over there and check it out!
2. IRL...A few months ago at a race I ran into a reader Megan who introduced herself to me. She and I have been playing email tag since and I finally got to talk In Real Life at running group yesterday! I was totally going to bag since I was feeling particularly lame with the freezing temps, but I'm so glad I pushed myself and got to chat with her! She is beginning her training for Boston where she is going to ROCK it! Great talking with you Megan and hats off to you for fitting in training with scheduling challenges! Let's run again soon!
3. This weekend I am going to run a 14-15 miler (depending on time) and I am thinking of using the Galloway Method for it to see how I like it. A few weeks ago I was talking about this with another person from running group (seriously I learn SOOO much from this group). She has used it with two marathons both of which she ran 25 and 28 mile training runs and was able to recover really quickly! Have any of you used this before? Any suggestions?

Yay for being featured on another mother runner, that's awesome!! I haven't tried the galloway method, but know some people who love it. Definitely worth a try!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on being on another mother runner! I will have to go check it out!
ReplyDeletefollowed this link from another mother runner! i'll definitely be coming back to check out your blog! i live right outside of boston, so it's fun to follow a "local" :) i'm a newbie runner so i can't wait to get some good tips from those a lot more experienced!
ReplyDeleteCongrats!!
ReplyDeleteI have never used it, but I've heard good things about it. I think you should try it and report back to us :)
ReplyDeleteI am a huge fan of Galloway! If you are someone who doens't normally take walks breaks, you have to get over yourself a litle bit in that you feel like you are being a bit of a slacker in some ways. (In races, people will try to encourage you to run when you are doing your walking thing and it can get annoying). I have used his method for a couple of marathons and it is unreal how different you feel at the end. You definitely recover MUCH faster using Galloway.
ReplyDelete#1- So awesome. Congrats for being chosen.
ReplyDelete#3- I have 14 miles planned for Sunday too. I haven't run that long in awhile. I don't walk/run, but it sounds so effective you should give it a try.
I'm curious to hear what you think of Galloway.
ReplyDeleteCongrats again on being featured!
Just saw you on the Another Mother Runner blog and email! Awesome!
ReplyDeleteI've heard nothing but good things about Galloway training. Jeff Galloway has visited our running club once already and apparently is coming back again this year to hold a Q&A-pretty exciting!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on being a Mother on Follow This Mother! Awesome!
ReplyDeleteI have considered using the Galloway plan; in fact, I may use it for my half that I'm planning on running in May. You will have to keep us all updated on how it goes if you decide to do it!
Just read the article on Another Mother Runner, it was great. I had a great time running with you last night. It made the miles go by faster. I woke up this morning with very sore legs. I'm going to have to do dome dpeed work to keep up with you. :)
ReplyDeleteMegan
Congrats on being the featured mother runner! Going to check it out now!
ReplyDeleteI totally used Galloway for my 2011 spring marathon training then the marathon itself - it was the strongest I felt at mile 24, & my time wasn't too far off. I'm thinking about going Galloway again now that I'm hitting 18+ miles in my long runs.
ReplyDeleteI did the run-walk method during my training for both marathons and loved it. I ran 1 mile and walked 1 minute. This made the long runs go by so much quicker. 15x1 miler seems easier than running 15 miles non-stop. I guess it's more a mental game :)
ReplyDeleteI've used the Galloway method for almost a year now. It's become the way I run.
ReplyDeleteThe "real" method doesn’t let you run for more than 7min straight, unless you're a Kenyan. For a 10min/mile pace you should do a run/walk ratio of 3:1 I think. Training for my first (and only so far) marathon I did all my long runs at 2:1 ratio. For the actual race I did 3:1 and all my splits from 1 to 26.2mi were even! it's incredible but you can keep your pace all the way through because of the walk breaks.
If you do the long runs with no company it's perfect, otherwise you have to convince you're running buddy to do the same.
Because I don’t run with groups or anyone else, this became the way I run. I always finish the long runs a bit tired but not exhausted and don’t even need to take a nap afterwards. I didn’t need it even after the marathon. Totally recommend the method to avoid any injuries as well.
Best of all is that you can be faster when introducing the walk breaks win-win!
Hi Nancy! I've seen your name pop up on other blogs and then I saw you featured on RLAM! Woot, girl, congrats!!
ReplyDeleteI'm a Higden girl. I've read Galloway and I really like his approach. I'm very interested in seeing how this works out for you.
I run with a women's group too. They are my rock! I couldn't get through my longs without them. Isn't amazing that women runners can talk through anything? Out VO2 must be epic! ;)
