Fitness Friday....Inspiration not Comparison

I have been reading several post these past few weeks that have dealt with weight loss journeys...and how they are a personal journey.  One that can not be compared to a journey of someone else.  When I set out to lose the weight after having my daughter I admit that I fell into the comparison trap.  I looked at how others were losing weight and looking and I compared my journey to theirs.  I know that in a few months I will be on that journey again but this time I am choosing to use those around me and in my Fitfluential family to be an inspiration for me instead a stick by which I am measuring myself.

Choosing to change your life and be fit....or setting off on a new journey in your fitness is a challenge.  It's supposed to be that way!  Any time you are breaking the pattern of what you usually do in order to create a new patter, your body will resist....but break away because it is so worth it!  Don't let comparison get in your way though.  Use others as inspirations....ideas....encouragement!  We're all in this together!

  3. Loved your post!!! I think that we all use comparison or
competition to our advantage at times...it can be healthy. yet, when we let it contol us because we are competing...then we have to re-evaluate our reasons for doing so.

Loved your stats post too ;) KEEP it UP!

  4. So true! Every body is different and our bodies function differently. I've found as I've gotten older, it's becoming increasing difficult to lose weight. I take it one day at a time. I have good days and bad days but I stay focused and true to my goals. I don't typically comapre myself to others, but I think people seem to do that to me. For example, so and so is able to *insert diet/work-out method*, you should try that! I just want to scream, "Leave me alone! I like my body! I like me! Sorry if that makes you uncomfortable!"

Visiting from Fitness Friday. So glad I did! Love your tag line: "Line of champion chip eaters". lol

  5. It's all so true, Nancy. I started out thinking I needed to do this or that....but I quickly realized this was about me, my journey, my weight loss, my fitness--and no one else's body is exactly like mine. So i needed to focus on myself, what I wanted for me, and what my body was capable of.

    Love it.

  6. Yes! Why are women so competitive with each other sometimes? It's just silly. Can't wait to hear about your little one and support you on your new journey. :)

  7. funny - i was just reading an article yesterday on low weight doesn't necesarily mean you are fitter than someone who is heavier.

Keep kickin' Nancy! Like the new header photo. You obviously like Sauconies?

  8. Yes! Inspiration is one thing, feeling less than is something else.

  9. Great post - and it's all about our perspective that determines if competition and comparing is healthy.

  10. It is so hard not to compare. My husband and I have both been trying to lose weight. For whatever reason even though we eat the same thing we wont lose weight at the same time. He'll have a good week or two and I'll have a bad one, then vica versa, even though it's the same food. It's also very frustrating to see him lose and me not.

  11. Yesterday, out of the blue, I got caught up in the comparing game and definitely didn't come out a winner. Why do we do that to ourselves? It would be easier to prevent it if I could figure out why I do it.

Enough! Today will be a better day :)

  14. It's a shame that so many of us see comparisons as 'challenges' and brings out the competitiveness. However I always loved 'The Biggest Loser' as inspriational. Reality TV I know but I loved their journeys.
