TMI Tuesday!

Ok ladies....and fellas too....let's be honest here.  The summer is here....the sweat it pouring down....and skin is rubbing together!  OUCH!!!
Last week during my running group session at the track I wore my usual Reebok running skirt and tank.  Normally and all last summer I could wear my skirts on runs shorter than an hour and be just fine.  I would say 1/4 of the way into the workout and I knew I was in trouble.....the chub was a rubbing!!  After 14 years of being a softball catcher my legs resemble more of a line backer's than a runners but apparently my pregnancy legs are wider still!
What's a runner to do?  That's right friends....I continued on and finished the workout knowing the price I was going to pay was going to be painful!!  And let me tell you it was!  The next day....actually 2 days I had to pile on the Neosporen and band aids....oh and compression shorts too just to be able to walk without looking like I just got off a horse after 12 hours!!!  Yeah it was painful and so not fun!
So dish away on TMI Tuesday....
Has this ever happened to you?  What do you swear by to keep the run from causing a fire on your body?

  1. This is the third post I've read this morning on chafing. Fingers crossed I've never had this problem and from what I've read I'm VERY grateful!

  2. Oh you know it's happened to me! I have had some painful showers after a good rubbing. :-( So far, the skirt with the spankies has been doing wonders! I also like Aquaphor for slathering on prior to a long run.

  3. Ouchie! Knock wood I haven't had much of a problem with this. Except for one workout top that turned evil after 10 miles...

  4. when i ran my second 1/2 marathon i was still naive and didn't know what chub rub was- I wore a little bit shorter shorts than I normally run in not knowing what laid ahead. After the race I made the mistake of getting in the hot tub to soothe my legs--- HOLY BEJEESUS was it painful. To make matters worse the only thing I had packed was a dress, ie more chub rub. The rest of the day I was hobbling around with my parents and yes... it did look like I rode a horse... and maybe got kicked off a few times. Now I always wear spandex shorts to race in, or have them underneath a skirt.... no exceptions

  5. Yes! During the summer I get chafed in places I wasn't sure possible!!! I have to use sport shield like crazy for long runs and hot runs! Loved hearing you were a catcher! I was a pitcher so I have the huge shoulders going on over here;)

  6. Oh it just hurts so badly. I can suck it up when I'm running, but as soon as I'm trying to go to sleep at night and I KNOW it's there....ugh.

  7. hahahaha! Oh such an important subject for all of us...

let me tell you that I had chub rub until finding this Athleta running skirt...NO RUN, AT ALL!!! I'm serious when I said that it was the BEST skirt ever! It's the truth...

  8. I sometimes get it under my arm. Not so much in the pit, but below the pit, where my arm chub rubs on my side. I hate it! It usually helps to wear a shirt that is not a tank top, but when it's really hot outside that is the last thing you want to do!

  9. Yeah...my Saturday 16 miler in the heat/humidity w/ me dumping water on my head had ugly consequences where my shorts hit my back. The thing about chafing is that I never seem to know where it will strike with any given shirt or shorts, so it's hard to plan for it!

    1. This is often my problem too!! Sometimes it is my back, other times under my arms (where my tank top ends)...I don't use body glide b/c I'd have to lube up my whole body!

  11. Yep, chub rub sucks. I'm now using HooHa Ride Glide but still having issues. Long shorts when I run are the only prevention.

  12. Glide, glide and more glide. I've used it before and it works wonders. But you need to put it on BEFORE you start. It will last and don't be afraid to be generous where ever needed.

Body Glide was a bit too much like deodorant and didn't work for me, but I did use Sport Shield. It's more of a roll and oil like, but it is a miracle worker. One thing to note is that it may leave a residue on your clothes, but it washes out.

  13. Sport Shield FTW! I've always chafed between my thighs and wear compression shorts as a result. Occasionally I get chafing in other parts of my nether regions so I prepare buy using Sport Shield. It is waterproof so doesn't rub off like Body Glide. I have tried every other product out there and this is the only one that works for me.

  14. I use BodyGlide and recommend it to all my running peeps. I have used it for ultras (50 and 100K) and it has saved my butt (and other parts) numerous times!

  15. I'm SOO thankful I have never experienced this issue. But I heard vaselin helps.

  17. Ugh...I had a ten-miler today...and it's the first time I've experienced chaffing. I was even wear capris. My problem ended up being that I'd worn these capris so much that I'd worn a small hole in the inner thigh. Of course, today's humidity had me sweating terribly, and since these have the stretch material in them, the worn seams have that rough feel to them. Wore right through the small hole and rubbed my thigh the last 5 miles of the run. It sucks!!! I've heard Body Glide works...I need to invest in something for hot days like this.

  18. Hmmmm, I don't have too much of a problem with this - but if I do, it's just good ole Vaseline.

  19. I think 75% of us runners have had this happen, I use body glide as I don't have too many issues now that I lost weight but totally feel for you! Hope it goes away soon.

  21. I have to do a shameless plug for my sponsor here, AQUAPHOR! I didn't know much about the product other than its uses for children's rashes (faces & diaper rash), until I joined team aquaphor, but now that I know, it is awesome! I put it on my thighs all the time to prevent chaffing. I have really sensitive skin, and I put it on my back, armpits, feet, and thighs depending on what I am wearing to prevent chaffing. I wish I was near you and could give you some free samples. Also, I have used A&D ointment on accident before. It works pretty well too.
