WICW-What I Crave Wednesday

I was giggling with my husband last night....ok I was giggling and he was looking at me like I was slightly off...about how different my cravings are this time around.  With Em I was all about....
Salt...salt...and more salt.  Chips, popcorn, you name it I had to have it!  That would probably explain the 50+ lbs I gain while I was pregnant with her!  Needless to say she is the same way.  If it's salty, she loves it!

Fast forward to this pregnancy...
Sugar is the name of the game this time around, however I am using a lot more restraint than I did with my first.  Losing 70lbs was no walk in the park and not something I'd like to repeat if I can avoid it!  While I have been craving candy, cookies, and ice cream for each meal of the day, I have been trying to substitute for things that are either healthier or less offensive like....
Today I have a huge bag of cherries to munch on...the sweeter the better!
Believe it or not my green smoothie has really hit the spot too!  I have been adding in chocolate Amazing Grass powder for some chocolaty goodness!
Ok so not perfect but at least it's better than balancing a pint of Phish Food on my belly!  Plus they come in single serving containers!
Now I'm not going to lie and say that I am being perfect.  There may or may not be a bag of gum drops in my car at this very moment, but I am trying not to go whole hog and eat everything I'm craving!  We shall see if this little darling has a sweet tooth!!

How do you address your cravings?
(And no you do not have to be or have be pregnant to answer this one!)

  1. I think you are making great choices and with all of the exercising you do, you will be just fine! I crave sweets all of the time and I am not even pregnant! For me, it's just self control but I do give in and treat myself or else it just gets worse. As long as I am running, I think once in a while is good for me :)

  4. LOL - Love the craving talk... With my first I was totally hooked on hot fudge sundaes. I don't even know how many I plowed through in those 40 weeks. :) With my second, strangely, I don't recall any cravings...Hmm, I'll have to noodle on that one. :) Enjoy your treats! You deserve them!

  5. I totally crave sugar and try to keep myself in check. Ironically, when I was pregnant I had NO cravings. I keep telling my husband how lucky he had it that my appetite balanced out. Although, I still gained a ton of weight but perhaps that is because he kept trying to feed me....nonstop....everyday!

    Gotta love it!

  6. I wanted nothing to do with sugar with my first pregnancy and like you I craved it with my second one, especially chewy fruity candy and I did indulge. I also wanted cheese, pickle and dorito sandwiches. mmmm still love those though I don't indulge very often anymore

  7. My pregnancy was all about sugar, too. Fresh fruit is a great option- I had a hard time staying away from ice cream and chocolate. I still haven't tried the Greek frozen yogurt yet, mmmm!

  8. Hey name-twin! I'm a huge sugar fan and I need to learn to curb my cravings with fruits instead of processed sugars.

  10. haha! I find great alternatives to the really "bad" stuff! You poor thing, first salty and now sugary! I didn't really crave anything but popcorn with my first son. I could have eaten popcorn all.day.long!!! With my second son, I sadly didn't crave anything! It was strange!

  11. Ugh! sugar was the bane of my existence for the majority of my pregnancy too. I could not get enough. Thankfully, that phase is finally over. I tried to do the same as your doing with the fruit. Good luck!!

  12. I've never been pregnant... I am not much of a sweet craver, although I did eat an entire bag (maybe 2 lbs!) of cherries the other day. They were SO good. I kept telling myself I was going to regret it, but my hand just kept shoving them in my mouth! When I have cravings, it's usually for salt and I can generally quench it with a couple of pickles!
