Galloway Running Take 1!

As I said on Thursday, I tried to follow the whole run-walk model from runner Jeff Galloway.  I decided to do 1 mile run-1 minute walk.  I had 14 miles on tap but well....here come the excuses.  I ran later in the day throwing off my fuel for the day... I had no fuel for the run leaving me STARVING...I was just plain tired!  So I ran 13.1 with a 1/2 mile walk at the end.  Thoughts......I liked it.  There are things I need to tweak as I try this again but I am trying it again!  I played with the walking a bit like if I saw a hill coming I would wait to walk and I walked every 1.1 mile so I could see what my "real" pace was.  I was going really fast (for me) for at least 8 miles and then started getting tired.  I kept the pace below 9 min/miles for most of it except for 2 of the miles (the first warm-up mile and one with a HUGE hill).  I'll put my splits below.  I liked it overall and can't wait for my next long run!  Best of luck to all of you racing this weekend!!!

  1. Great run! I would love to know how you feel post-run and if it's better than when you didn't use the Galloway method.

  3. Wow, great run!!! I like this method and it helped me to PR, even though I walked all water stations.

  4. Oh and one thing I learned, it's important to start walking from early on. Once you are tired and then start walking, it's too late. Good luck!

  6. Pretty nice numbers!! I do plan on walking all water stations in Houston next week - worked really well with my first marathon (Portland).

  7. Keep up the great work! Thanks again for all the great support and comments on my site. I'll be praying that you find that extra little edge you need on each of your runs!

  8. Wow! I have a friend who uses Galloway and tried to get me to use it. Like you I experimented (one time) and found I could actually run faster on the run parts. Yet my mind telling me this is not really running!!! Ugh! Now you have me wanting to try it again. What great times Nancy!

  9. I love Galloway. I can run much faster knowing I'll get a little break after a 0.5 mile or whatever interval I've chosen. Great job on that run!

  10. It seems like it really worked for you! I mean, your pace is still really good! You must have been SPEEDING along when you were running! I found that intervals have really helped me with my speed. I have not tried the Galloway yet.

  11. I'm training like this as well at the moment, but not as speedy as you yet ;-)

  12. Great splits! I've been curious about Galloway but couldn't wrap my head around how walking would help me get faster. Now you've got me thinking I need to do some more research!

  16. So do those splits represent the 1 minute walk in them? If so - you must have been smoking fast.
