Pity Party...Party of 1

After the past few days I have an entirely new level of respect for those of you out there...the ones who have been injured for a while and are rocking the rehab and staying calm.  I reinjured my back yesterday at the gym and this sign should be firmly pinned to my shirt...
I was at the gym and ready to do my kettlebell circuit...I had chosen lighter weights to be safe...was 4 exercises into the set when BAM....my back firmly told me that there was no way this workout was going to happen.  Even above that...standing up straight or really walking for that matter was out of the question too...which is really interesting since I work in chairs that are about 5" off the ground making every move a deep squat!  Immediately I wanted to sit on the floor and cry...I felt bad for myself and panicked about New Bedford and my training...I was just starting to feel strong and ready to really push myself.  Now I just feel sad and frustrated.  I am going to see how today is...probably going to take a whole day off...mentally I know that this is the only thing that is going to make this angry toddler of a back stop screaming but oh the head game it plays with me!
Any suggestions for ways to rehab a cranky lower back?  Any suggestions to stay on track while I'm sidelined?  Any exercises to do?  Any volunteers want to come over and remove the Valentine candy meant for my daughter's teachers so I don't eat it?

  2. It is so frustrating and not fun at all. BUT - I try to see injuries as a way of your body saying REST. It's hard. I know. Now...what can you do? Sometimes nothing is the best thing to do. I'm not sure how you are feeling today. Can you at least cycle to get some kind of (even if it is low) endorphin kick? Can you do some yoga? I don't want to suggest something that might aggravate your back even more. A few days off isn't going to kill your training. Hugs! xoxo

  3. REST! It's so hard I know, but like Jen said, a couple days off will not ruin your training. I rested for a couple days last week and then worked in some easy yoga. look up Colleen Saidman on youtube, I have been doing her total body flow, strengthen and energize ones just for what my back would allow and it really helped. my back would at least let me elliptical, not sure I could have cycled since sitting was painful, but take some deep breaths and let your body get better so you can get back to those bells soon! sorry you are having to deal with it!

  4. Oh Nancy! I'm so sorry. The best thing you can do I'm sure is maybe just take a few days off. Your back will thank you and then you'll be ready to really hit it when you're healed a little bit. Hang in there!

  5. Nancy I agree with everyone else - rest is your friend at the moment. Keeping my fingers crossed that you won't be sidelined for long!

    2. Hope you are better soon! I have no back advice. Maybe see a chiro?

  9. Oh no, I hope you feel better by now!! Maybe you should get a massage? Also Epson Salt baths are very good to relax muscles. And if it lasts more than a week, go see a chiro!

  10. After you back pain begins to lesson, start strengthening your back with yoga. The stretching, planks, and corrective posture, will help prevent this from occurring again. Good luck!
