12 in 2012

Back in November, Jill Conyers started looking for runners who were crazy enough to join her to run 12 half marathons in 2012.  Well if you know anything about me it's that I die for a challenge and this was one that I was excited about!  I knew it would be a struggle since the hubs is doing his body building show in April and I wanted to give him the time he needed and the spotlight he deserved.  So here is my tentative schedule, barring any changes as life so often does!  I have already had to deviate from my original...

Feb. 18th-Martha's Vineyard 20 miler - Martha's Vineyard, MA
March 18th- New Bedford Half Marathon - New Bedford, MA
April 7th- Jamestown Bridge 10k - Jamestown, RI
May 29th - Great Hyannis Road Race Half - Hyannis, MA
June 5th - Old Sandwich Road Race Half - Plymouth, MA
July 7th - Firecracker 5k - Cotuit, MA
August 12th - New Balance Falmouth Road Race - Falmouth, MA
September 10th - Run to the Rock Half - Plymouth, MA
                 22nd-Zooma Women's Half-Falmouth, MA
October 12th - Harwich Cranberry Half Marathon - Harwich, MA
November 6th - Chilly Half Marathon - Newton, MA
December 11th - Christmas Run 10k - Newport, RI

There are a few months (August, July, and December) in there where I could not find a half anywhere close to MA but if you know of one I would love to know!  Plus April is reserved for the hubby and his show so I figured a shorter race near my hometown would work.  Are you planning on being at any of these?  Let me know...I would love to meet up!!  What does your 2012 look like?

  1. Awesome Nancy! I can't resist a challenge either :)

I have already had to deviate from my original plan too. My January 1 race sold out so now it's January 28. No worries. I have planned backups all year.

  7. I wish I had that many 1/2 marathons close to me. There are only 2 before I have travel more than 3 hours to another one. Can't wait to see how you do!

  9. You have a lot of options! I may join you for one of them, since I go that way pretty frequently and it's always nice to run something new!

  10. I love "preview 2012" posts! I'm excited to follow you on your 12 in 12 goal. You can do it! Unrequested advice? Don't race them all, use some as training runs to prevent injury. Good luck!

  11. Wow - impressive list! If I get un-injured maybe I'll be able to squeeze 12 in this year! :) Looking forward to following your training!

  13. I'm so impressed you're doing this! I was very tempted, but was having trouble coming up with summer runs... maybe I'd be able to do 12 if they aren't all halfs... hmm, might have to still look into this!

  16. I love it. I had the same idea back in November myself! I actually made a blog for the challenge too http://12half12.com (and dragged my feet at getting it set up). I would love if you posted progress on the facebook page :)

I'll be running the New Bedford Half in March too. As for July and August Halfs I think Vermont has a couple (I'll be racing a half in the mountains of Colorado if possible) if you are willing to travel that far.

  18. Sounds like a great idea!

Providence RI is in August. Thinking about it myelf but not sure. Haven't done rock n roll race yet.

You have given me some ideas for "drivable races"

  19. I love this idea! What a great way to keep you motivated. If you can't find any races in those months you could always do your own half - or maybe even host a virtual half.
